Funding and Support

Student collaboration

CILASS has a strategic aim of building on and extending the existing teaching excellence in Inquiry-based Learning at the University. We will facilitate this process of creative and innovative pedagogical development through the distribution of funding and through the support available from the core team and our partners at the University.

CILASS offers two distinct schemes that give academic staff the opportunity to take forward curriculum development and research projects in the field of inquiry-based learning.

Departmental / school funding (scheme now closed)

Is offered to all schools and departments in the faculties of Arts & Social Sciences for strategic inquiry-based development at the University of Sheffield. There is a rolling programme of engagement over the five year cycle of CILASS with each school or department offered two opportunities to bid for funding for curriculum development projects.

Details of funded projects can be found in the projects section of the website

Internal IBL Grant scheme (scheme now closed)

Offers grants and other support to individuals or groups to enhance or initiate IBL related activity in teaching. Applications to this scheme are open to all faculties across the University. Details of funded projects can be found on the projects section of the website

External IBL Grant scheme (scheme now closed)

Colleagues from external HEIs were invited to apply for IBL grant funding through the subject centre network.

SURE: Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience

This scheme offers opportunities for undergraduate students at The University of Sheffield to become directly involved in the research activity of the University, take part in `real life´ research projects in subject areas that are of special interest to them, and experience what it´s like to work in partnership with academic staff or collaboratively in a research group.
