The Nomination/Evidence Process
The process for nominations and submission of supporting evidence is outlined below. The aim is to keep the process as short and easy as possible.
1)Nominations open A global email announcement will be made formally opening the nominations process.
Nominations can come from staff and students or be self-initiated.
Staff and/or Student-Initiated where the nomination comes from staff or students, at least two members of staff or students (or one member of staff plus a student) must sign the nomination form. The member(s) of staff being nominated should also sign to indicate their willingness to be nominated.
Self-Initiated - in the case of self-initiated submissions, the nomination must be seconded by a colleague.
2)Nomination Form & Statement (see appendix 1) The nomination statement consisting of a brief statement of max 1,000 words, should be submitted to cilass@shef.ac.uk by 30th March 2009. The statement may be in the form of a letter or memo and should give a short assessment of the work for which the candidate is being nominated against the criteria outlined. See Appendix 1.
3)Supporting Evidence The nomination statement should be accompanied by Supporting Evidence which should include the evidence that the panel will draw upon to make the award decisions. The panel will accept evidence in any format, i.e multi-media applications accepted.
The Supporting Evidence should make a case in the following three ways:
a) Firstly, it should allow the Panel, whose members may not know the nominee or their work, to gain a sense of the context and nature of the inquiry-based activity, or support for this activity, e.g.
- Audience – UG, PG etc
- Form of engagement – inquiry activities
- Work they have been involved in with the CILASS team
b) Secondly, the nominee(s) and /or proposer should describe the nominee(s)' broad approach to IBL, or support of those involved in IBL, and the skills and qualities that the nominee brings to the role.
c) Thirdly, the claims should be justified by referring to the supporting evidence, e.g. evaluation results (Theory of Change or other), external examiner reports, student feedback, and explaining the significance of each.
The Supporting Evidence should address the criteria as set out in Appendix 2.
Selection Criteria (see Appendix 2)
