Information Literacy Network
The Information Literacy Network is an interdisciplinary special interest group created with the purpose of bringing together key stakeholders in information literacy at the University under the CILASS umbrella. The Network is chaired by Professor Sheila Corrall from the Department of Information Studies and co-ordinated in partnership with the Library. It draws upon the strong research and teaching interest in information literacy in the Department, as well as on a range of initiatives in the Library, which has been instrumental in developing resources to support information literacy, in particular an online "information skills" WebCT tutorial. Information literacy is a key theme of CILASS activity, as we identify the development of information literacy capabilities as fundamental to the success of inquiry-led curricula.

The Network runs a programme of events focusing on the role of information literacy development in inquiry-based learning and on approaches to information literacy pedagogy and support . The Network also aims to encourage sharing of experience within and across different disciplines, gather examples of good practice, and build a bank of resources to support information literacy development. We hope to catalyze new collaborations between academic staff working on discipline-based inquiry-based learning projects, librarians and academic information scientists with specialist interests in information literacy.
IL Network events are advertised through the CILASS website and targeted e-mail publicity. Do please get in touch with the Network Coordinator if you would like further information about its activities or about information literacy more generally. Members of the Network organising group would also be pleased to contribute to departmental teaching events such as away days.
