I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Information Studies, and Director of Learning and Teaching for the Department. As a CILASS Fellow I hope to be involved in developing the Information Literacy starnd of CILASS' work, in particular following on from my AHRC-funded project investigating UK academics' conceptions of teaching information literacy. I will also be taking the lead in exploring the possibilities of learning and teaching in Second Life, the virtual world. I have been involved with CILASS from the start, as a member of the team developing the CILASS bid, and latterly as Departmental Champion and a member of the CILASS Information Literacy Network. I also used the first CILASS collaboratory extensively in my teaching in 2006/7.
I teach on the Postgraduate and Undergraduate programmes and was formerly Undergraduate programme Coordinator. My key area of teaching and research is Information Literacy and I am Director of the new Centre for Information Literacy Research. I am frequently asked to give talks in this field, here and overseas, and have been maintaining the Information Literacy Weblog since 2003.
Altogether I look forward to an exciting year working more closely with colleagues in CILASS, in other parts of the university, and in Second Life!
