Departmental Centenary Open Day

We are happy to report that the Open Day was a big success. We welcomed almost a hundred alumni with their families on 2 July, and the mix of presentations, tours and displays went down well. It was lovely to catch up on all your news, and the talk by John Roberts on the London Eye was enjoyed by everyone. This is what you had to say:
- “A very fitting way to mark the University’s Centenary. I was pleasantly surprised (since it is more than forty years since I graduated) to meet five others I had known whilst an undergraduate…………… the chatting went much wider than immediate acquaintances, with much comparing of notes, all of which served to reinforce the long-held view that we had been fortunate in our choice of university all those years ago.”
- “Just a note to say how stimulating and enjoyable it was. It is quite wonderful to see how the Civil and Structural activities have been thriving and expanding despite the profit focussed attitude of big businesses in recent times.”
- “We found some considerable nostalgia in going round the various labs revisiting our undergraduate attempts at research or design.”
Remember we are always happy to hear from you, and we are still accepting donations for our Teaching Prize, which was awarded this year to Dr Buick Davison during the Open Day festivities. Jenny Chambers can give you more information. The next edition of the Alumni News will be ready in October.
