Contract Testing
The department has been providing product development and testing services to industry for over 25 years.
Shaun Waters is our full-time Experimental Officer, who has a wealth of expertise in original testing projects, mainly in the area of structures and structural components. Some examples of products and components successfully tested/developed within the past 5 years are:
- Vibration Endurance Testing of CTRL Tunnel Services
- Static Load Testing of Glass Block Window Panels
- Shear connectors for Westminster Bridge.
- Temporary traffic panels for Chek Lap Kok Airport, Hong Kong.
- Dynamic triaxial loading of soils
- Development of masonry wall-ties and support systems.
- Flowdrill connections on hollow-section columns.
- Nickel super-alloys under thermal and mechanical loading
- Stiffness damage testing of concrete.
- Neoprene expansion joints
- Cast iron/carbon fibre composite beams for the London Underground.
- Precast driven concrete piles.
- Adjustable pallet racking.
The key element is our ability and experience in designing original testing processes to solve one-off development problems.
