Hydrogeology is the study of water present in the ground – groundwater. It is an important, often essential, component of water supplies in many countries. In the UK, groundwater provides 30% of our water supply, but with significant geographical differences in demand. There are significant pressures from human development and potential contamination on the quantity and quality of groundwater supplies, and an equally important need for trained professionals – hydrogeologists – to protect and manage this valuable resource.
