Integrated urban flood model and decision support tool
The objective is to develop an integrated model and decision support tool to describe and quantify all types of flooding in the urban area and to assess the impact of interventions within a whole life cost and sustainable framework. It is proposed to apply fragility concepts to describe hydraulic and assets performance models.
Processes:
- Identify the functionality of all components: Level of service, level of performance
- Establish mechanisms leading to failure
- Integrate these mechanisms into a fault tree or event tree to identify interactions
- Calculate the probability that these failure mechanisms will occur – i. e. how fragile is the functionality of each component to different loading conditions
- Quantify the consequences of these failures
- Estimate the total flood risk as a function of probability x consequence of each failure mechanism
