Entry requirements: Doctor of Clinical Psychology
Academic and Research
Applicants are expected to have a good upper second or first class Honours Degree in Psychology, which is accredited by the British Psychological Society. We accept applications from candidates who have completed a post-graduate diploma/conversion course accredited by the B.P.S. Applicants whose first degree was not in psychology must submit a transcript of the postgraduate course of study, which confers GBC. We do not consider applicants currently studying psychology as undergraduates.
Direct experience of conducting a research project either at an undergraduate level or in subsequent work is required. Stronger applications will provide evidence of post-graduate research experience in academic or clinical contexts. Applicants should be able to show a critical understanding of psychological theory and be enthusiastic about applying this in their reflections on their experience. The programme does not offer accreditation of prior learning.
Eligibility for Graduate basis for Chartering
All Applicants will be able to provide evidence for eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the BPS.
Clinical Experience
Applicants will demonstrate that they have a reasonable breadth and depth of experience working with client groups relevant to the practice of Clinical Psychology, and that this work involves some therapeutic or change related focus. Candidates will be able to demonstrate what they have learned from their experience in terms of the applications of psychological models and theories to the work, and in terms of their own personal/professional development. Candidates should demonstrate a good understanding of the role of clinical psychologists in the current NHS. Stronger applications will provide evidence of direct experience of working with and supervision by a Clinical Psychologist.
Overseas applicants
Places on the Programme are currently fully funded by the British National Health Service. The programme is not therefore able to offer places to candidates who do not have UK/EU fees status.
English language
If English is not your first language and your university qualifications were not taught and examined in English, you need to submit evidence of your ability in English language with your application. This should be a computer based IELTS test. The minimum scores needed are: 7 with no element below 6.5.
Equal Opportunities and Diversity
The Course operates an equal opportunities policy and no applicant will be discriminated against on grounds of ethnicity, religion, age, disability, sexuality or gender.
Candidates with knowledge and experience of other cultures or minority groups are particularly welcome to apply. A current driving licence is highly desirable
Double tick scheme
In line with implementation of the Equality Act 2010 and our achievement of Double Tick status, we welcome and encourage candidates to declare whether they have a disability in section 9 of the application form.
