Fees and funding for postgraduate studies

Fees

The fees for full-time postgraduate study at the University of Sheffield for 2009-10 are as follows (the university has not yet published the details of fees for 2010-11, but this year's fees will provide a fairly accurate guide to what they will be): For 'home students (this covers most EU students) taking the MA the fee is £3390 per annum. For 'overseas' (non-EU) students the fee is £10920 per annum.(Overseas students will have to study full-time, as they will not be able to obtain immigration clearance to study part-time.)

Arts and Humanities Research Council funding

AHRC Funding
Most UK nationals who are offered a place on one of our postgraduate programmes will be eligible to apply for a full AHRC studentship (covering both maintenance and tuition fees).

EU nationals accepted to study on our postgraduate programmes will also be eligible for AHRC studentships: many EU students will be eligible for full funding (covering both tuition fees and maintenance), while others will be eligible for partial funding (covering tuition fees only).

Important note:
The deadline for applications for both AHRC and University of Sheffield studentships is: January 15th 2010 (by %pm, UK time). All applications must be emailed to pgr-scholarships@sheffield.ac.uk and they must contain all of the required information to be eligible for consideration. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their applications by the University's Research and Innovation Services, by March 2010.

Income from teaching:
The Department offers a limited amount of paid teaching in philosophy. Those in the second year of their PhD are eligible to run tutorials for first year undergraduates, and some in the third or fourth year of the PhD are invited to run lecture courses.
