Student accommodation

Although the University of Sheffield has an increasing number of local students, the majority move to Sheffield from elsewhere to commence their studies. The University of Sheffield recognises that the number of students seeking accommodation and other services in the city can have an impact upon the permanent community.
The University employs a number of strategies in this area:
The Student Residences Operational Management Plan:
This covers all aspects of managing the accommodation owned and operated by the University e.g. Endcliffe and Ranmoor student villages.
Property Disposal
In an effort to help foster an appropriate balance in the community, the University has sold some of its residential housing stock. Many properties sold are covered by a covenant ensuring that they are not used as house of multiple occupancy.
Private Sector Registration Scheme
The University of Sheffield seeks to work closely with private sector landlords to the benefit of the student and the wider community. Approximately 5,000 students are currently housed in 'registered' private sector accommodation. Through the registration scheme, the University inspects each registered property to ensure minimum standards are met. This is renewed each year and allows responsible landlords to promote high standards.
