The Institute of Lifelong Learning

Education is not just limited to those working towards a degree; it is about giving everybody the opportunity to learn. The Institute of Lifelong Learning provides part-time higher education courses for the region.

More than 860 students, many of whom have had no prior contact with the University, are studying for the first time and are currently involved in part-time and short courses.

The Institute of Lifelong Learning runs part-time courses which are open to the public. Courses can be taken just for interest or to gain a qualification in subjects as varied as archaeology, French language, political studies, environmental conservation, creative writing and IT. Most of the courses are held in the evenings (although some day-time courses are available) or at weekends. Classes are small and teaching and learning takes the form of short lectures and friendly discussions.
