Travel and transport

The University has an integrated transport policy which:

The University, in its efforts to alleviate traffic, access and parking problems, and as part of the HUMUS Partnership, works with other large employers, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and the City Council.

Promoting the alternatives

The University seeks to enhance and promote the provision of public transport services, walking and cycling, including in its information provided to students.

Other steps taken to discourage car use include:

Car parking

The University of Sheffield recognises that, while some staff and a relatively small number of students have no choice but to use cars, it does have a responsibility to seek to diminish parking in residential streets while meeting the reasonable needs of staff and students.

Priority for parking permits (for which payment is required) is given to those with disabilities, carer responsibilities, and no practical alternative to driving to the campus.
