SheffieldVolunteering
Sheffield Volunteering opens a world of over 200 opportunities to experience new things, develop new skills and meet other volunteers whilst getting active within the local community.

The University encourages all of its students and staff to be active and valued members of their local community. This year saw 199 local organisations benefiting from a total of 32,496 hours of volunteering across 78 neighbourhoods in and around Sheffield.
Activities are designed with students in mind offering options to fit around time, interests and development opportunities. One off tasters provide great easy access volunteering in a short amount of time. Opportunities are fun, free and a great way to try new skills. Longer term opportunities provide students with the chance to design and shape their own projects. It’s a great way to learn new skills and build on them throughout the year.
The Volunteering Committee organise promotions and events throughout the academic year with the aim to spread the volunteering message to as many staff and students as possible. They are supported by Volunteering Ambassadors, who help in developing their own volunteering events.
Our projects are shaped by the wild and wonderful ideas of our students. This year, Word Club bought English to life in local Sheffield Primary schools. ‘Synonyms Stomps’ and ‘Onomatopoeia Fireworks’ made grammar exciting and simple to learn. Word Club aims to raise the aspirations of local children by making learning fun and introducing them to higher education.
