The Department is Growing – Again!
The builders have moved in and the latest phase of the Department’s growth has just begun. We are converting our original multi-storey combustion labs, built in the 1960’s, into a modern laboratory suite more in keeping with 21st century chemical engineering research. New intermediate floors are to be provided, overlooking a multi-height atrium space. This world class facility will provide a number of highly-serviced laboratory spaces, set within a flexible 'ideas zone' and complemented by new academic office space for the expanding research team.

Our research is internationally renowned. Our portfolio of 29 major research projects has a total budget in excess of £9.9 million. Our work is supported by UK Research Councils, Charities, UK Government and the EU.

BBSRC studentships available
We currently have BBSRC fully funded studentships available to UK/EU students wishing to pursue our MSc in Biological and Bioprocess Engineering. To find out more about the studentships and our MSc BBE programme, visit the course website

Bioscience or Engineering graduates - boost your career potential
If you are a graduate from either a bioscience or engineering background, choosing our MSc in Biological & Bioprocess Engineering (BBE) could make you much more attractive to potential employers. You also have the option of gaining a PhD in the process.
