New CAPIRE grant for Daniela Romano

Dr Daniela Romano has been awarded a new research grant: complex adaptive system for prediction and planning in response to extreme events (CAPIRE)

Dr Romano is the lead partner in a consortium that includes two industrial collaborators, Transport Research Laboratory and Agent Oriented Software Ltd.

The CAPIRE system is an adaptive simulation system for modelling, predicting and planning in response to extreme events. It uses the novel software technology of intelligent software agents to model crowds as well as vehicle behaviour (traffic), in the form of multi-modal transport networks. Extreme events can be modelled in CAPIRE, and the resulting non-linear
emergent behaviour of the complex system predicted and explored to
plan response and recovery actions.

The grant of £150,000 will fund research for 6 months.
