Where are they now?
Joe Zakzouk graduated with a BSc in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science in 2004. Since then, Joe has worked in IBM's outsourcing business, having gone through the two-year graduate programme in sales and delivery placements. He currently has a business development role, focussing mainly on "software as a service" and smarter ways for clients to use their mainframe estate.

You are important to us
We're proud of our graduates, and want to keep in touch with the members of our "extended family". Our graduates work across the globe in many different organisations - not just in the software industry, but also in accountancy, banking, education, information services, media and broadcasting, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, defence and law enforcement. Many of them work for household names such as IBM, BT, Logica, BAE, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Oracle, HSBC, KPMG, AT&T and Fujitsu.
If we don't have current information about where you are and what you're doing, please consider updating your details in the alumni database.
How you can help us
Could your company offer a work placement? We're looking for companies that can offer employment experience to our students during a 12-month work placement. We believe that such placements are very valuable in providing students with experience of solving real-world problems, and putting academic theory into practice. It also increases their value on the job market. Students on three year degree programmes would complete a 12-month placement in between the second and third years of the programme. Students on four-year (MEng) programmes also have the opportunity to complete a work placement after the third year of study.
Could your company offer an industrial project? We are also keen to find industrially-relevant projects for our third year and taught Masters students. This need not involve a placement as such, but would require regular contact between the student and industrial client.
If you are able to offer a work placement or project, please contact our Industrial Placements Officer, Dr. Thomas Hain.
How we can help you
As a graduate of the Department yourself, you'll be aware that we produce excellent graduates! We are continuing to produce some of the best computer science graduates in the UK; indeed, one of our third year students, Chris Green, was recently awarded the BCS prize for the Best Information Technology student at the 2009 SET awards. Work placements and industrial projects are an effective way of attracting new talent to your company, and a cost-effective way of getting an extra pair of hands to do high-quality software development.
