Our programmes are at the forefront of development in dental education. In 2008 we have introduced a new integrated curriculum for undergraduate dentistry and we have pioneered outreach teaching in primary care settings.
We were rated as `excellent´ in the Teaching Quality Assessment, achieving 23 out of 24 points. In a recent external evaluation of our teaching we were described as an `excellent school of international calibre´.
Research is one of our key activities. It underpins our teaching and informs the development of clinical excellence.
RAE 2008: in the recent research assessment exercise 70% of our research was graded as `world-leading´ or `internationally excellent´.
We were ranked 4th among the UK dental schools and were one of the top performing departments in the University of Sheffield.
