Frequently asked questions

Is there an application fee?

No there is no charge for the elective programme

When do I need to apply?

1st October 2012. All documentation must be received electronically by 5.00pm (GMT).

When will I hear about the decision?

We will contact by email you no later than three weeks after the closing date (i.e.by 22nd October). Please do not contact us prior to this date to enquire about your application.

I only have paper copies of the documents requested, is it ok to post them?

No, all documents must be sent electronically.

Can I change the date of my elective?

No, once you have been accepted onto the programme it is not possible to change the dates. Please ensure that you apply for your visa in plenty of time to ensure that you can attend on the dates requested.

Will you organise accommodation for me?

No. We will provide you with details of nearby accommodation with your acceptance letter.

Is there a dress code?

Students should dress smartly and comfortably. If you are accepted further information will be sent to you about our dress code. When attending clinics within the dental hospital students must follow Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust “Bare below the elbow “policy.

I’ve been successful, what happens next?

Once you have been accepted we will send you a letter confirming this and some additional forms to complete. This will include details regarding your health status and a Certificate of Good Conduct/CRB check.
Please note we are unable to accept students who are Hepatitis B or C positive or who have Tuberculosis. All health records provided must be in English or supported by translations in English.

Will I get a timetable?

Yes, a timetable will be sent to you at least one month prior to your visit. This will include details of where to go on your first day.

What if I would like to do a project?

Our elective placements are usually observational. However, if you have a project you would like to do, you should state this on your application form. Depending on the type of project we may be able to organise this for you.
