Bioengineering and Health Technologies

Biography

I joined the University of Sheffield in 2007 as a PhD student in Restorative Dentistry. I am currently a Clinical Teacher in Restorative Dentistry and have been closely involved in teaching and research at the School of Clinical Dentistry. My main activities include clinical and laboratory teaching of undergraduate dental students, treatment of patients with advanced restorative needs referred by General Dental Practitioners and research within the Bioengineering and Health Technologies Research Group.

Research interests

I am interested in multidisciplinary research in the field of dental biomaterials, computerized dentistry and advanced manufacturing technique. My research interests can be categorized in six main categories:

  • Structural integrity of teeth restored with machined ceramic restorations
  • Investigation of optimum properties of dental restorative materials
  • Dental biomechanics
  • FEA (Finite Element Analysis) of complex dental geometries
  • Customised implant using advanced manufacturing for clinical applications in human
  • Remote digital communication in health-care provision

Teaching Interests

My main teaching activities include:

  1. Clinical and laboratory teaching of undergraduate BDS dental students
  2. Student research project supervision including Masters and PhD projects

Professional activities

Member of the following learned societies:

  1. International Association of Dental Research (IADR)
  2. British Society for Dental Research (BSDR)
