Programme Director 

I am a Senior Clinical Lecturer and Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield. I have responsibility for leading much of the undergraduate prosthodontic and endodontic programme and I’m passionate about providing high quality teaching and the highest standards of clinical care to my patients. My research interests lie in the biomechanics of the reconstruction of the damaged tooth, the remineralisation of dentine using nanoparticle scaffolds and the provision of clinical specialist services using remote super-fast broadband technology.

Lead for Endodontics course

I am a specialist endodontist and work in my specialist endodontic referral practice and in the School of Clinical Dentistry, where I am responsible for the delivery of the undergraduate endodontic programme. You are looking at 30 years of clinical practice, 20 years of experience with an operating microscope and 15 years as an endodontic specialist. I'm an expert in the diagnosis of facial pain, vital pulp therapy, root canal therapy and the restoration of root filled teeth. Would you like to learn how to do this?...... because I'd love to teach you!

Lead for Periodontics course

I am Professor and Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and a Specialist in Periodontology. I have over 20 years experience of teaching Periodontology to postgraduates at both the Eastman in London and since 2005 at the School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield.

I am on the Specialty Advisory Committee for Restorative Dentistry and have contributed to the development of the GDC curricular in the Specialties of Endodontics, Periodontics and Prosthodontics. I have a national and International reputation, having been President (2008-2009) of the British Society of Periodontology (BSP) and am the current representative for the BSP on the European Federation of Periodontology.

At both the Eastman and Sheffield I have been responsible for developing the Periodontology programme from a 1 year masters programme to a 3 year programme matching the GDC curriculum. My previous experiences have allowed me to introduce novel and innovative aspects into the new programme we have developed for Sheffield.

I have published extensively in the periodontal literature and aim to stimulate my students to undertake quality research. I am passionate about Periodontology and the important role it plays in all aspects of dentistry. I aim to provide quality treatment for patients, motivate students and promote and advance the discipline of Periodontology. It is my vision to encourage our students to be the leaders in Periodontology for the future.


simonDr Simon Northeast

Lead in Prosthodontics

I am a Senior Clinical Teacher, Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield. I have over 20 years experience teaching restorative dentistry postgraduate degree students at Sheffield and 35 years teaching undergraduates. I have worked extensively in part time specialist private practice providing a broad range of advanced restorative care to hundreds of patients. Being passionate about preservative treatment, I have developed sophisticated skills with extensive knowledge of the entire spectrum of modern adhesive aesthetic techniques, prosthodontic treatments and materials. These range from layered polychrome resin composites to full mouth rehabilitation with adhesive ceramics, plus extensive treatment involving dental implants. I am passionate about the quality of diagnosis, treatment and service provided to patients, with a lifelong devotion to instilling this in all my students.
