The research degrees offered are Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Members of staff and dental graduates of the University are eligible to study for the degree of Doctor of Dental Science (DDSc).
The School has a very active research programme and an international reputation for its friendly, stimulating and vibrant research environment. In RAE 2008, 70% of the research of The School of Clinical Dentistry was graded as 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent'. We were ranked 4th among the UK dental schools and were one of the top performing departments in the University of Sheffield.
Research is organised into four areas: Oral Biomaterials, Dental Public Health, Oral Neuroscience, and Oral Disease. This activity is inter-departmental, making full use of the excellent facilities in the School and the wider University.
There are also a wide range of CPD opportunities provided by the the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health for practitioners employed within Yorkshire and the Humber and the East Midlands NHS services.
