Why choose the MClinDent in Periodontics at Sheffield?
This programme will provide a scientific and deep knowledge of the aetiology, pathobiology and management of the diseases of the periodontium. It will also provide knowledge on the inter-relationship of periodontal status with other oral diseases and systemic health. A sound understanding of managing periodontal diseases in the context of overall health and, in particular, in Restorative Dentistry should be gained.
Programme Outline
The course is based on a core and a clinical programme. The core programme includes units on Clinical governance, Evidence based dentistry, Management of specialist practice, Research methods, Teaching, a clinical training programme and a research project. The clinical training programme will run across the full period of registration and consist of up to 5 clinical sessions per week for a full-time student and up to 3 sessions per week for a part-time student. This will include observation and supervised treatment of patients.

- To develop an individual with the necessary evidence-based and critical approaches to working in the field of periodontics
Learning Objectives: On completion of the programme the graduate should:
- Be able to diagnosis and manage most conditions pertaining to periodontics
- Understand the role of periodontics in the development of a comprehensive treatment strategy and plan for an individual patient
- Demonstrate critical appraisal skills when evaluating information in the dental literature

Entry requirements
A recognised dental qualification and two years general dental experience essential.
The language requirement for those whom English is not the first language is IELTS average of 6.5 or above with 6.0 in the written component.
A high standard of English language: IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 5 in any part) or TOEFL 575 (paper based) or TOEFL 232 (computer based) or TOEFL 90-91 (iBT) or recognized equivalent.
Your application will not be considered if it does not meet these basic entry requirements.
