Dentistry at Sheffield
The Sheffield Dental School was founded at the end of the nineteenth century and since then it has grown and developed in close relationship with both the University and the City. Most of the clinical teaching takes place at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, which is physically linked to the Dental School and close to the Medical School. It is a busy, thriving and well-regarded institution with a large number of patients attending each year.
Four clinical departments form the Dental School: Adult Dental Care, Oral Health and Development, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Pathology. There are close research links among the departments and other areas of the University, and the research of the school underpins its teaching. This research is focused in three broad areas: oral biomaterials; oral health and disease; and oral neuroscience.
