Learning Opportunities In Theatre For Students

    Untitled Document

Sheffield University Theatre Company (suTCo) is one of the leading student theatre companies in the country and stages 9 productions a year in the Drama Studio all of which are run soley by students. The Drama Studio's excellent facilities coupled with the platform suTCo provides for recreational theatre gives students the rare opportunity to experience the practical workings of a professional theatre environment. Students can get involved in many different areas of the stage including acting, directing, design, production or even by submitting an original play for consideration by the suTCo committee.

The Drama Studio's staff support suTCo with their productions by offering guidance, advice and training in the following production techniques:

    • Lighting and Sound Design
    • Production and Stage Management
    • Set Design and Construction
    • Stage Rigging

Many students who have worked in the Drama Studio with suTCo have continued on to successful theatre careers in the fields of acting, directing, playwrighting, set, lighting and sound design. Notable alumni who have worked in the Drama Studio include comedian and actor Eddie Izzard and former Artistic Director of the Royal Court Theatre and Director of the films Billy Elliot and The Hours Stephen Daldry.

Both the Drama Studio and suTCo are grateful for financial assistance from The University of Sheffield Union of Students.
