Entry Requirements

Our standard offers for A level and International Baccalaureate candidates are shown below. We also welcome applications from people offering other types and combinations of qualifications including Cambridge Pre-U, Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers, Irish Leaving Certificate and international qualifications. Core Requirements

  • All applicants must have a minimum of GCSE Mathematics grade B and GCSE English grade C, or equivalent.
  • At least two of the three A levels must be in 'acceptable' subjects. The third can be in any 'acceptable in combination' subject. Guidance on acceptable A level subjects
  • Previous study of economics is not essential.

The Department of Economics does not accept applications for direct entry to year 2.

*IB candidates who have not already met our English and maths requirements must obtain at least 4 in Standard or Higher Level English and for BA degrees, at least 4 in Standard Level Maths or 5 in Mathematical Studies.

 

English Language Requirements for 2012 Entry

All students must have an approved English language qualification equivalent to at least GCSE English grade C. Acceptable ones include:

  • IELTS
    - 6.5 overall with 6 in the Writing component and 5.5 in all other components (for L100, L101, L1N3, LG11)
    - 6.5 overall with 6 in the Reading, Writing and Listening components and 5.5 in Speaking (for NL21, NL41)
    - 6.5 overall with 6 in each component (for LL12, LV15, RL11, RL21, RL41, RL71)
  • Internet-based TOEFL - 91 with at least 21 in Listening, 21 in Writing, 22 in Reading and 23 in Speaking
  • IGCSE First Language English - grade C
  • IGCSE English as a Second Language - grade B
  • International Baccalaureate Standard Level English - grade 4
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) - grade C
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - grade C

More approved English language qualifications
