The Department of Economics is committed to building strong, mutually beneficial relationships with the public, private and voluntary sectors. By accessing the University's knowledge base you can improve the effectiveness, productivity, efficiency and competitiveness of your organisation.

Collaborative Research Studentships

If you are an organisation that needs to undertake more fundamental research, you may be interested in supporting a PhD student through one of the Research Councils´ `collaborative´ studentship schemes. These require a small financial contribution from the industrial partner, but can be a good way of exploring more fundamental topics.

Knowledge Exchange Partnerships

If you wish to explore the potential for an innovative product or service, there are opportunities to enter into a Knowledge Exchange Partnership with the Department. This involves a researcher working with both employer and University for a period of two years. It entails a financial contribution from the employer, but there is also generous government assistance.

If you are not yet at a stage to develop a full Knowledge Exchange proposal, there are a number of more exploratory possibilities, such as the University´s Knowledge Exchange Opportunities Fund.

Consultancy and Contract Research

Members of staff have undertaken applied research and consultancy for the following government departments: Department for Education & Skills, Department of Health, Department of Work & Pensions, Department of Trade & Industry, Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs, Home Office, National Institute for Clinical Excellence, Equal Opportunities Commission, Low Pay Commission, Sector Skills Development Agency, Scottish Executive and Welsh Assembly.
