Uzma got her master´s degree in Economics with distinction (Gold Medal) from Islamia University Bahawalpur, Pakistan in 2003. She then joined Islamia University Bahawalpur as a lecturer in 2005.

She obtained her M.Phil degree in Economics from Islamia University Bahawalpur, Pakistan in 2009. She has also got fee waiver Scholarship from Economics Department, Sheffield University for her Ph D which covers most of her tuition fee. Now she is a research student in Sheffield University as her Ph D started in September 2010.
