Programme Fees
EdD FEES 2013/2014
Home/EU students £3,200 per annum
Overseas Students £7,130 per annum
PLEASE NOTE that fees will rise each year in line with inflation
Fees are payable each year for a minimum of 4 years and will be charged in years 5 and 6 where studies continue. Payment may be made by one of the following methods:
- One payment in full or
- one down payment of 20% at registration followed by a further four monthly instalments beginning 1 December and ending on 1 March (cheques payable to The University of Sheffield).
All fees are inclusive of charges made by the University for registration, tuition, residential weekends, examination (except binding of thesis) and graduation (except robe hire).
The University reserves the right to withhold the award of qualifications to students who have not paid their fees and dues in full.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
The School regrets that it does not have access to funds to support students. Some institutions may be prepared to support their teachers and lecturers for continuing professional development and other purposes and potential students should enquire from their own employers what arrangements are available at the same time as they are considering applying for a place.
A note on funding
Each year a number of applicants to the EdD programme enquire about the availability of external funding to support the fees.
In our experience the following funding pattern of fee-paying has established itself:
- most students pay an element of the fees themselves
- approximately two fifths of students are paying the entire fee themselves
- approximately one half are being supported by their employer/institution - amounts vary but sums range between £200 - £500 per year in most cases
- a few students have attracted funding from other organisations which have an interest in the outcome of their studies for example local charities, funded education projects, Training and Enterprise Council/Business Education Partnerships
The School of Education is always ready to write letters of support to possible funding bodies (including the applicant's own institution) once a student has been accepted onto the programme and is seeking help with the payment of fees. Such support can point out the staff development potential of the EdD and the benefits that can accrue to organisations from the research findings of a student's EdD studies.
