Outreach activities, HE Taster Events and Open Days
Are you considering a course at university but not sure if higher education is for you?
Do you provide courses for adults and community learners who may be interested in progressing to HE?
Margaret Lewis and Louise Ritchie are Adult and Community Widening Participation Officers based at The Institute for Lifelong Learning (TILL ). Their role is to act as a point of contact for adult learners, community educators and further education providers. This year Margaret and Louise are organising a range of information events, taster sessions, open days and workshops for those who would like to find out more about studying at higher education level. These events would be of particular interest for:
- those who would like to find out more about studying on a part time basis at TILL; and
- those who are currently delivering courses to adult learners and who would like to offer their learners a chance to find out more about studying at university.
Free HE Taster Days
Thursday 17th May 2012, 12 – 3 p.m.
Tuesday 26th June 2012, 12 – 3 p.m.
Wednesday 12th September 2012, 12 – 3 p.m.

Why not book a place and come to one of the Open Days to find out more about studying at TILL? You will be offered a tour of the campus, information about support – including financial - for adult learners, and the opportunity to hear what current and former students at TILL have to say about studying here on a part-time basis. Afterwards you can choose to stay and talk to TILL course leaders at one of our TILL Open Days.
Two Day Summer HE Workshop
This free and very informal two-day workshop, including free food at the Student's Union, involves working closely with students and tutors from the Institute, as well as providing opportunities to meet with staff working at the University library, careers services and student support services. Find out:
- what you can expect to get out of University study, how best to prepare and how to apply;
- what a University qualification can do for you;
- what support and resources are available to help you;
- what University study expects of you.
Whether you have a clear idea about starting study in September 2012, or are just considering higher education more generally, this event is an excellent opportunity to meet others in a similar situation, and to have your questions answered. We look forward to welcoming you to the University.
If you are interested in coming to any of the Taster Days or Summer HE Workshop please contact TILL’s Adult and Community Widening Participation Officers, Louise Ritchie or Margaret Lewis, to book a place or to find out more.
