Internationally renowned in our field

We are respected internationally for our many important contributions in the field of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. This is supported by the fact that 95 per cent of our research was classed as being internationally recognised or higher in the 2008 Nationwide Research Assessment Exercise. If you choose to carry out your research with us, you will join a vibrant community of approximately 500 postgraduate and undergraduate students. At the time of going to print, we have 39 academic/academic related staff, (including 11 professors) and 48 research staff. We also have a dedicated team of 25 technical and 11 administrative support staff.

Studying for a research degree is very rewarding. You´ll be working on a project at the forefront of technology, developing solutions to tomorrow´s problems. During your studies you´ll be encouraged to present findings of your research at national or international conferences and to publish in leading research journals.

Your Career

Our PhD graduates leave with highly sought after skills and find employment with numerous national and international companies and organisations in all areas of electronic and electrical engineering. These include energy generation and distribution, electric vehicle technologies, semiconductor device fabrication, computer engineering and communications systems design. Typical employers include Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems, Motorola, Plessey Semiconductors and ARM.
