Management School

OverviewThe Management School is the largest department in the Faculty of Social Sciences and one of the largest in the University, with over 70 staff and more than 1800 students. Established in 1986, the School has an international focus, with around 40% of our academic staff and students from overseas. Much of their research focuses on global themes – international human resource management, business in emerging economies, international business and managing multinational enterprises, export marketing and international consumer research. They have strong local connections and partnerships with corporations and public sector organisations – Rolls-Royce, DLA Piper, South Yorkshire Police, Royal Navy, and the Department for Work and Pensions. |
Supporting their ambitionsKey to their continuing development and success is the School’s physical location in a fit-for-purpose building. Their aim is to provide a first-class environment where students can learn, academics can collaborate on outstanding research and corporate partnerships can flourish. This will allow them to inform the practice of management and make a difference to the local and international community. To support these ambitions, the School will move to Crookesmoor in 2013. The building is being completely redesigned and refurbished to create a 21st-century research and learning environment – a dynamic hub which will stimulate study, thought and the proactive exchange of ideas. |
Real world skills for future leadersOur focus is on research led teaching. Our academics are at the cutting edge of their fields, and use their knowledge and experience to provide students with the best contemporary insight into management theory and the skills required to apply this to the workplace. Our Masters programmes provide students with the key skills they need for a successful career. The Sheffield MBA programmes are directed towards thinkers, leaders and problem solvers – individuals who know how to tackle problems and can successfully impact upon real-life business issues. Both MBA programmes (full-time and part-time) attract professionals from a broad cross section of businesses and organisations, providing them with the expertise necessary to generate value and growth for their organisations. |
