The DELTA Modules

WHO IS THE DELTA FOR?
You may be a graduate, or already hold an initial teaching qualification, and are considering furthering your career in English Language Teaching. Delta modules are ideal if you wish to extend your professional experience and accept new responsibilities as they not only demonstrate a commitment to the profession, but also proof of your ability.
COURSE STRUCTURE

MODULE ONE
Understanding Language, Methodology and Resources for Teaching (20 credits)
This module focuses on the background to teaching and learning English in a range of contexts.
MODULE TWO
Developing Professional Practice (20 credits)
This module tests knowledge of the elements of planning and preparing a lesson or a sequence of lessons and how to select and use resources and materials.
MODULE THREE
Extending practice and English language teaching specialism (20 credits)
This module tests knowledge of classroom management and what happens in the classroom in terms of the language used by the teacher or learners, the roles of the teacher can fullfil and the ways in which the teacher can manage classroom events and interaction.

THE DELTA MODULES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD
We run all three Delta Modules on an integrated, part-time, face-to-face basis over an academic year from October to June. This allows our trainees to complete all three 20-credit modules, and therefore be eligible for the full Delta award, in 9 months.
Trainees come to our centre in Sheffield for input sessions every Monday evening from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and on four Saturdays from 10:00am to 1:00pm over the academic year.
COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The requirements for entry are normally the following as a minimum, although applications are assessed on an individaul basis.
- Aged 21 or over.
- At least 2 years of varied English language teaching experience.
- At least a initial English language teaching qualification (CELTA, Cert. TESOL or equiv.)
- An excellent command of the English language (native or 8.0 in IELTS or equiv.)
- Successful completion of the application process, including pre-interview and at-interview tasks.
COUSE DATES AND TIMES
Monday 5:30pm - 8:30pm
From 10th October 2011 - 21st May 2012 (holidays over Christmas and Easter, but no half-terms)
In addition 4 Saturdays from 10:00am-1:00pm over the course on dates to be agreed.
The Delta Module One exam is on the morning of 6th June, 2012.
All work for Modules 2 and 3 needs to be submitted by May to be included in the June moderation, otherwise candidates must enter for moderation without Centre support at a later date.
COURSE FEES
The tuition fees will be £1900.
There is a supplement of £100 for candidates outside the city of Sheffield or £200 for those outside South Yorkshire (within 50 miles) to cover extra costs for time and travel when assessing lessons.
A deposit of £600 is due to secure your place on the course. This must be paid at least 4 weeks before the start of the course. The remainder of the fees should be paid within 2 weeks of the start of the course.
As part of your course fees, Cambridge ESOL exam fees will be paid for Delta Modules 1, 2 and 3 for one sitting only. This payment is subject to rules set down by Cambridge ESOL.
If being funded by an external body, a letter of intention for payment of fees is enough to cover the deposit, but full payment should be made as soon as possible.
Individual requests for alternative payment schedules may be made and will be judged by the Centre accordingly.
