- Have you ever wondered how to create compelling characters, write powerful dialogue, build conflict and raise tension to create an efficient scene, or find the words that would best resonate on the stage?
- Have you got some ideas for a performance piece you'd like to write, or are you experiencing issues with a work in progress?
- Have you written a play that you would like to present to an engaged audience, and for which you would like to get constructive feedback in a friendly environment?
- Would you like to learn about the writing process of successful contemporary playwrights, find out about the techniques and constraints they use, and perhaps try some of them for yourself?
- Or are you just passionate about the theatre and want to join a community of like-minded theatre lovers?
If you answered yes to any of the above, feel free to come and join us! Bring your drafts, ideas and enthusiasm and get ready to get some ink out of your pen
OpenPen, the School of English Playwriting Group for students, by students at the University of Sheffield was launched in April 2013. We meet every Wednesday from 6 to 7:30pm for one and a half hour sessions in Jessop West, Seminar Room 3. Combining theory and practice, we look at a wide range of materials and resources from extracts of successful plays to interviews with contemporary playwrights, develop our creative writing practice through various types of applied exercises, and provide a space for you to share your work, give and receive constructive feedback, and improve your creative writing skills in an informal, supportive environment.
Brought to you by Solange Ayache and Chrissie Stimson, the group is open to undergraduates and postgraduates alike, but places are limited.
To register now or find out more, please contact s.ayache@sheffield.ac.uk and/ or cestimson1@sheffield.ac.uk.
