Help and Support

How to get Academic Advice

Your module tutors will usually be able to help. If you have a question of a general nature about a core module, you may wish to consult the module convenor. If you have a query about your membership of a particular seminar group, consult the School of English reception. Details of Office Hours are published as a document on Uspace and staff will be happy to help you, academically, administratively, or personally, whether or not he or she is your tutor or personal tutor. Members of staff act as Assessment Officers for Levels One, Two, Three and Four and you should see them if you have any problems concerning the submission of assessed work. You can find out about these in the Assessment section of the School of English Uspace pages.

You can contact your personal tutor about any problem you are having with your studies. Please see the separate section on personal tutoring for more information.

Sheffield University Nightline

Sheffield University Nightline is part of a national network of Nightlines run by universities throughout the country. It is a voluntary service run by students from the University of Sheffield, with financial support from the Union. Its volunteers are trained in active listening techniques, so you can talk to them about anything you need to. Nightline operates from 8pm to 8am during undergraduate termtime. It provides a non-directive information service providing useful information on things from Union activities, to directions to Brook Hill Hall at exam time! University can be a hard time for anyone, so Nightline also offers support on a more personal level for those with problems who wish to talk anonymously to an impartial listener.
