The Theatre Workshop

The Theatre WorkshopThe School of English Theatre Workshop is exactly that – a workshop space for making theatre.

While the venue is run by the Theatre and Productions Manager, Rob Hemus, the space very much belongs to those who use it, and the ethos is a simple one – a space for students to do whatever they like so long as they tidy up afterwards and respect the needs of others working there.

Rob is there to teach, train, supervise and work with students in achieving their design and production aims, but the only limits to what students can do is imposed by their own imagination, dedication and time available.

The Theatre Workshop is often used by students or alumni to develop work outside the taught curriculum, and various projects such as Starsong have helped expand ideas of how the space can be used. Alumni such as Stephen Daldry, James Grieve/George Perrin (Nabakov), Alan Lane (Slung Low), Lucy Prebble and Vicky Pratt have all started their work in the Theatre Workshop.

The space is sometimes available for hire, but more often it's overwhelmed by an enthusiastic student cohort.
