Aurel Klimt: Czech animation at the Showroom Cinema, 20/2, 6 p.m.
Director/animator Klimt will introduce and discuss some of his short films with the audience.
Czech director and animator Aurel Klimt is a graduate of Prague's FAMU (Academy of Performing Arts), where his work continues the tradition of Czech puppet animation begun by his mentor Bretislav Pojar. Klimt has received numerous festival awards, and achieved considerable critical and commercial success with the films 'Fimfarum' and 'Fimfarum 2', which bring the fairy tales of Jan Werich to the screen. Klimt currently heads the Department of Animation at FAMU and runs his own animation production company.
The Sheffield Czech and Slovak Society, which has close ties to the University, has received funding from the Czech government to bring Aurel Klimt to Sheffield for a visit in co-operation with the Showroom Cinema. On 20th February, starting at 6 p.m., Klimt will be introducing four short animation films spanning his career, and will take questions from the audience. This event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
