SOAMSThe University of Sheffield´s Outreach and Access to Medicine Scheme (SOAMS) makes a career in medicine a possibility for able students from all backgrounds. A number of years ago the University was awarded additional places on the MBChB degree for students who have the ability to become good doctors, but who would not normally consider Higher Education as an option open to them. These places are reserved for students who successfully complete the SOAMS scheme. Guiding you to a career in medicineSOAMS is for Year 9-13 students with an interest in medicine, but who would not normally consider Higher Education as an option for them. The scheme provides support and guidance through a range of exciting activities which aim to raise awareness, aspirations and levels of achievement. |

ADOPTThis two-year programme is for Year 12 students who are interested in a career in dentistry, as a dentist, hygienist or therapist. Our aim is to encourage students from backgrounds which are under-represented in higher education. We want to help them overcome the barriers that might discourage them from applying for a place at university. These barriers might be:
