Excellence in teaching is one of our core values. We teach in a creative and innovative way to provide a stimulating and inspiring learning environment for our students.
One of the key aspects of science teaching at Sheffield is that it is research-led. Our staff are some of the leading researchers in their field. This gives our students the opportunity to study in an active research environment, learn about new advances and ideas as they happen, and graduate with the most up to date knowledge.

Students voted us as fourth in the country for quality of overall student experience in a 2009 Times Higher Education survey. We score very well in the National Student Survey, and our recent successes in the Research Assessment Exercise put the University into the top 10 in the UK for 'research power' with many science departments ranking even higher.
We work with each student to develop key attributes to prepare them succeed in life. Attributes of a Sheffield graduate include the scientific knowledge and skills but also the personal and intellectual qualities needed for employment and for life beyond university.
