Researchers’ Night
Friday 28th September 2012
What is Researchers’ Night?Researchers’ night is an EU initiative that takes place in September each year to promote research and researchers. In 2011, 800 higher education venues across 32 European countries opened to the public on the same night for an evening of talks, exhibitions and hands-on demonstrations.
When and where is it happening? On Friday 28th September 2012 the University of Sheffield will take part in Researchers' Night for the first time. It will run as part of the Festival of the Mind - a week long festival showcasing the cultural strengths of the University and City.
What happens on Researchers' Night? The emphasis is on demonstrating our research in an entertaining way with plenty of fun, hands-on activities and opportunities to talk to researchers. The event is aimed at the general public and families, although there will also be some visiting school groups.
Get involvedIf you're interested in taking part then please fill in the short webform (link below). This doesn't commit you at this stage, but helps us gauge levels of interest.
Your ideasWe are open to any ideas you may have, be that talks, demos, lab tours, audience participation using 'clickers', film, photography, arts-science, comedy, quizzes, Q&A panels, games, competitions and anything else you might think of. If you'd like to be involved without running an event then we also want to hear from you as we'll be looking for volunteers to act as guides and work behind the scenes. If you have any queries, please contact Claire Wilkinson on c.h.wilkinson@sheffield.ac.uk or ext 29772. |
