Department of Cardiovascular Science
Together we'll improve the world.
The Sheffield Science Gateway team aims to support academics to build and develop collaborative research relationships with scientists, engineers and medical professionals from outside the faculty.
SSG supports knowledge exchange activity in four key areas:
- Promotion and profile – understanding and publicising our Faculty’s capabilities in relation to the outside world.
- Networking – connecting academics with relevant external communities of interest to create research opportunities.
- Project development – working with academics, partners, third-party funders and Research & Innovation Services to turn opportunities into funded research activity.
- Research-based learning – managing training courses, conferences and other events to enable rapid dissemination of research findings to interested communities.
SSG is directed by Prof Mark Geoghegan, the Faculty Director for Training and External Relations, and is accountable to the Faculty Research & Innovation Committee of departmental Directors of Research. We measure our performance in terms of the academics we support and the income we help them to generate.
Colleagues may access the support on offer through a relevant member of staff – please see the “SSG Team” page – or by contacting the SSG Manager, Dr Liam Sutton, on x29383. SSG offers a “light touch” travel fund to support any Science academic to meet new, non-academic collaborators – please download the guidance for detailed terms and conditions.
The SSG website, ssg.sheffield.ac.uk, offers external users the ability to Explore, Connect, Collaborate with our Faculty. SSG broadcasts news about the Faculty, opportunities and items of potential interest via Twitter, @ScienceGateway, and maintains a discussion group on LinkedIn, Sheffield Science Gateway. Colleagues are warmly invited to connect and participate.
