Research and Innovation

The Faculty of Social Sciences is one of the leading, and most diverse, groupings of social science expertise in the UK. In the RAE 2008, over 60% of the faculty's research activity was graded as world leading or internationally excellent, with the majority of the faculty's submissions ranked in the top 10 in the UK. The Departments of Politics and Town & Regional Planning, and the Information School were ranked as the best in the UK, with several other departments ranked in the top five. The Faculty continues to attract significant research investment from a range of sources, including the ESRC, UK Government and European Framework programmes.
