Froissart manuscripts exhibition in Paris

Easter 2010 sees the launch of a 3-month exhibition at the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris linking the University of Sheffield's Department of French with the Musée national de l'Armée, the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Bibliothèque d'Etude et de Conservation at Besançon.

Featuring four beautifully illuminated manuscripts of Froissart's Chronicles specially loaned by the BnF and Besançon's municipal library the exhibition will occupy a space at the Galerie de l'Arsenal. Co-curated by Peter Ainsworth(Dept of French and HRI, University of Sheffield), Karen Watts (Royal Armouries) and Olivier Renaudeau (Musée de l'Armée), the exhibition will explore the four manuscripts as a major textual and visual source for the history of the Hundred Years' War, alongside items selected from the French national collections of arms and armour.

Central to the exhibition will be a series of themed commentaries authored by Keira Borrill, Katariina Närä and Valentina Mazzei, delivered via Michael Meredith's Kiosque software via interactive touchscreens.
