Publication of the Complete Works of Albert Camus - Editions de la Pléiade

Professor David Walker

On 30 January 2009, Professor David Walker featured as an invited member of a Round Table public discussion to mark the publication of the four-volume critical edition of the Complete Works of Albert Camus in the prestigious “Editions de la Pléiade” collection published by the Editions Gallimard in Paris. The only UK member of the team responsible for this edition, Professor Walker contributed critical editions of plays and theatre-related texts to all four volumes.

Alongside the writer’s daughter Catherine Camus, before a large audience gathered in the Cité du Livre in Aix en Provence where the Camus archives are housed, David Walker gave a presentation on “Camus homme de théâtre”, outlining the author’s career as a playwright and stage director that was about to culminate, at the time of his death in a car accident in January 1960, in his appointment as the director of a major Paris theatre.
