Dry spring in Sheffield and no sign of a let up

This spring so far has been unusually dry, with only 7.7 mm of rainfall recorded in March and 5.9 mm in April so far (up to the 21st) by Edward Hanna at his Sheffield Norwood Climatological Observers Link (COL) weather station* located near the Northern General Hospital, about 4 km north of the Department of Geography.

Average monthly rainfall totals are 68 mm and 63 mm for March and April respectively (based on long-term Weston Park Museums Sheffield weather station records).

The unusually dry weather is due to persistent blocking high air pressure over the UK.
