Three staff nominated for Students' Union Academic Awards

The University of Sheffield Students' Union recognises that good teaching has an enormous positive impact on student's learning experience and their Academic Awards 2011 - Celebrating Education is a way of rewarding academic and support staff who go out of their way to provide excellent teaching and support to students.

The department is delighted to announce that three members of staff have received nominations in the 2011 Awards:

  • Deborah Sporton, nominated for Good work towards Employability
  • Dan Hammett, nominated for Innovation in Teaching    
  • Adam Whitworth, nominated for Best Practice in Feedback    

The Students' Union Education Committee will choose the winners, and the results will be announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday 12 May. We wish them all good luck!


The Academic Awards 2011 winners have now been announced, and we are very pleased to announced that the department has two winners:

Good Work towards Employability - Deborah Sporton
"Deborah’s hard work and passion for the field has mobilised a year group of academically successful and employable development students."

Innovation in Teaching - Dan Hammett
"As well as constantly bringing examples forward using you tube clips and satire, his enthusiasm and obvious love for what he was teaching me was incredible and incredibly contagious."
