Decentring Knowledge: geographical perspectives on keywords

Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 September 2012, Ron Johnson Research Room, Geography & Planning Building, Winter Street, Sheffield

UoS/NUG logosA workshop held jointly by the Departments of Geography at:
The University of Sheffield, UK and The National University of Singapore.

This workshop takes as its broad aim a critical interrogation of, and sustained attempt to work beyond, the latent EuroAmericanism and geographical situatedness of academic knowledge production within contemporary Human Geography. Taking its cue from Dipesh Chakrabarty's Provincializing Europe (2000) and related work in Geography such as Jenny Robinson's Ordinary Cities (2005), the workshop will engender a wide-ranging set of conversations that collectively explore the challenges posed by the unthinking universalisms embedded in many of the concepts, theories and methods through which we regularly work as academic geographers.

Attendance is free and all are welcome to attend
