Useful Information for New Postgraduates

If you are starting your Masters with the Department of Geography in September, this is the place for you. We will update this page with information, and advice as appropriate. If you have any questions that aren't answered on this page, please email us at geo-apply@sheffield.ac.uk.
Registration
The registration even for Geography Masters students will take place on Thursday 26th September 2013 in Sports Hall 1, Goodwin Sports Centre. Intro Week: Monday 23 September - Friday 27 September 2013
During this week you will register, sort out your course, and settle into your accommodation. The emphasis is on meeting fellow students and getting to know Sheffield and the University. Information on the schedule for Intro Week will be sent to you by Student Services during August to allow you to plan your week.
Departmental Intro Day: Wednesday 25 September 2013
This is an opportunity for you to be introduced to the Department, and to meet the staff who will be teaching you, and your fellow students who will be working alongside you. The programme for Intro Day is as follows:
10.30am-11am Arrival and tea/coffee reception. 11am Induction and welcome to the Department. 12.30pm Lunch (to be provided) and an opportunity to meet current postgraduate students and staff. 2pm Masters students: Course-specific introductions with course convenors and an opportunity to discuss your choice of pathway through the Masters, modules for registration, and any problems or queries.
We strongly recommend that all students attend the Departmental Induction Day. However, we do understand that sometimes this is not possible. If you are unable to attend induction, please contact the department office (geography@sheffield.ac.uk) so that we can make alternative arrangements.

Reading Lists
There is no required reading to be done before you start any of our Masters courses as most courses provide you with materials to read upon starting your course in September.
