Degree courses and requirements for entry
We offer two single honours geography degrees, specialising either in Physical Geography or Human Geography. Our Environmental Science degrees are pathway-based, enabling you to combine aspects of Physical Geography with Geology and/or Biology to suit your own taste. Our range of dual honours degrees allow Geography to be studied jointly with a cognate subject.
The modular system within each course ensures choice and flexibility, and enables modules from other courses to be taken as part of your degree (including non-Geography courses). See the online prospectus entry for details of the core modules for all courses.
Requirements for entry
Our typical requirements for entry can be summarised as follows:
- We normally expect applicants to offer at least three full A Levels.
- Most courses have specific subject requirements for at least one or two of your grades (see the requirements relating to your course below)
- Whatever the subject-specific requirements of your course, at least two of your three grades must be in subjects from the list of acceptable A Level subjects as defined by the University*
- For all courses, your third grade must be from the list of acceptable in combination A Level subjects as defined by the University**
- We do not accept General Studies as a third grade for our entry to BA single honours Human Geography; however, this subject will not count against you if you take it as a fourth A Level.
- We may at our discretion decide to allow one A Level grade to be substituted with either 2 AS Level grades or 6 units of the BTEC National Award
In addition, subject to places on our courses remaining unfilled when the A Level results are confirmed in August, we may at our discretion consider:
- Accepting General Studies as a third grade for entry to BA single honours Human Geography, provided the applicant has done exceptionally well in that subject
- Applicants who meet the required UCAS tariff for Environmental Science courses, but who do not meet the exact requirements of the offer (e.g. an applicant who has ABC, when the typical offer is BBB)
Specific entry requirements for each course are summarised as bullet-points below, with core requirements for all courses at the bottom of the page. See the Online Prospectus entry for entry requirements for alternative qualifications.
