Courses and requirements
2012 entry
We offer two Single Honours geography courses, specialising either in Physical Geography or Human Geography, and one Dual Honours course in Geography and Planning. We also offer two Environmental Science courses that enable you to combine the study of Physical Geography with Geology and/or Biological Science to suit your own taste. All courses have a modular system that provides a wide range of choice and flexibility and provide the opportunity to take non-Geography modules as part of your degree.
L700 BA single honours Human Geography
- Typical offer: AAB
- Normally, at least two grades must be achieved in Acceptable subjects, and the third grade in any Acceptable in Combination subject
- Your grades must include Geography or another social science
- An additional social science, maths, arts/humanities or language is also recommended
- We will also consider arts and media-related subjects from the Acceptable in Combination list in lieu of a second A Level Acceptable subject, provided the applicant explains how the subject can contribute to the study of geography in the personal statement
F800 BSc Single Honours Physical Geography
- Typical offer: AAB or ABB
- AAB: To include Geography, Geology or Environmental Science/Studies, and a second Acceptable subject that is not a second science or mathematics. The third grade can be any Acceptable or Acceptable in Combination subject.
- ABB: To include any two of the following science/maths subjects:
Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science/Studies, Further Mathematics, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics (NOT Psychology). The third grade can be any Acceptable or Acceptable in Combination subject. - Transfers between degree programmes at the end of Year 1 will be considered only if the applicant meets the entry requirements for the new degree
LK74 BA Dual Honours Geography and Planning
- Typical offer: ABB
- Normally, at least two grades – including the A grade – must be achieved in Acceptable subjects, and the third grade in any Acceptable in Combination subject (including General Studies)
- Your grades must include Geography or another social science
- Art & Design and Design & Technology are considered to be Acceptable subjects for this course
- Transfers between degree programmes at the end of Year 1 will be considered only if the applicant meets the entry requirements for the new degree
Further Entry Requirements
Core requirements
We normally expect applicants to offer at least three full A Levels
Typical offers for each course are quoted in terms of your best three GCE A Level grades or equivalent
Normally, at least two grades must be in Acceptable subjects; the third can be in any Acceptable or Acceptable in Combination subject
We may at our discretion decide to allow one A Level grade to be substituted with either 2 AS Level grades or 6 units of the BTEC National Award
For all applicants, there is a core requirement of at least Grade C in GCSE Mathematics and English
Applicants whose first language is not English are required to take a suitable test (details below)
Acceptable subjects
For native speakers of a language other than English who are taking that language at A-level, we will consider that subject as 'Acceptable in Combination'. English language minimum requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English are required to take a suitable test. Typical minimum English Language requirements are an IELTS (International English Language Testing Service) average of 7.0 or above, with at least 6.5 in each component (6.0 for LK74), a TOEFL Paper-Based score of 600, or a TOEFL Computer-Based score of 250.
